Private Tours in San Sebastián
A private tour of San Sebastián is never the same twice. We build it around you - your interests, your pace, your appetite. Here is what most of our guests include:
The Old Town (Parte Vieja): the heart of the city and one of the densest concentrations of great food in the world. We walk the narrow streets, stop at the best pintxos bars, and I tell you what to order and where to stand.
La Concha Bay: a walk along the promenade with views of the island of Santa Clara and the hills above the city. One of the most beautiful urban bays in Europe, full stop.
Monte Urgull: the hill above the old town with a fortress and panoramic views over the bay, the city and on clear days, the French coast in the distance.
The Bretxa Market: a covered market in the heart of the old town where local fishermen, farmers and producers sell directly. A good place to understand what Basque food culture actually looks like before it reaches a restaurant plate.
Ondarreta and Zurriola: two beaches on either side of the city with very different personalities. Ondarreta is quiet and residential. Zurriola faces the open Atlantic and is where the surfers go.
If there is one thing San Sebastián is famous for above everything else, it is pintxos. Small bites, big flavors, and a culture of eating and drinking that is completely its own.
Our private pintxos tour takes you through the best bars of the Old Town at the right time of day, with the right guidance on what to try and what to skip. We cover the classics - anchovy on bread, tortilla, Gilda - and the creative modern bites that have made this city a global food destination.
This works as a standalone half-day experience or as part of a longer day tour. We usually finish at a table somewhere quiet with a glass of txakoli and no particular reason to rush.
Do you pick up directly from San Sebastián hotels?
Yes. We collect you from your hotel, apartment or any address in the city. No need to find a meeting point or figure out transport. We handle everything from the moment we pick you up to the moment we drop you back.
How long does a private tour of San Sebastián last?
It depends on what you want to do. A focused pintxos tour of the Old Town typically runs 3 to 4 hours. A full day that includes the city, a coastal drive and a cross-border stop into the French Basque Country can run 7 to 8 hours. We build the duration around your plans, not a fixed schedule.
Is San Sebastián easy to visit without a guide?
The main landmarks are easy enough to find on your own. But the best pintxos bars change depending on the time of day, the best viewpoints are not always signposted, and the neighborhoods away from the tourist center have a completely different feel. A local guide means you spend your time well rather than figuring it out as you go.
Can we combine San Sebastián with a visit to the French Basque Country in one day?
Absolutely. This is one of our most popular routes. San Sebastián to Biarritz is 45 minutes by road. On a full day we often cross into France in the afternoon, stopping at Saint-Jean-de-Luz, Bayonne or the inland villages of Espelette and Ainhoa. It is a genuinely different experience on each side of the border and works very well as a single day.
What is the best time of day for a pintxos tour in San Sebastián?
The Old Town pintxos bars are at their best in the evening, typically from around 7pm. That is when the fresh counter bites come out and the energy in the streets is at its peak. If you prefer a quieter experience, lunchtime works well too. We time the tour based on when you want to eat and what atmosphere suits you.
How far is San Sebastián from Biarritz and Bilbao?
San Sebastián is about 45 minutes from Biarritz by road and about an hour from Bilbao along the coast. It sits almost exactly between the two, which makes it a natural base for exploring both the French and Spanish Basque Country. We do private transfers and tours in all directions.
Do you offer private transfers from San Sebastián airport?
Yes. San Sebastián Airport (EAS) is about 20 minutes from the city center. We offer private transfers from the airport to any hotel or address in San Sebastián, Biarritz or the wider region. If you are arriving and want to start your trip properly from the first minute, get in touch and we will organize everything.
Can you organize a day trip to Hondarribia from San Sebastián?
Yes and it is one of my personal favorites. Hondarribia is just 20 minutes from San Sebastián - a medieval fortified town right on the French border with a beautiful old quarter, excellent seafood and almost no tourist crowds. It works perfectly as a half-day addition to a San Sebastián tour or as a standalone excursion.
What is the best time of year to visit San Sebastián?
San Sebastián is worth visiting at any time of year. Summer is busy and the beaches are at their best but the city is packed. September and October are probably the sweet spot - the weather is still good, the crowds have thinned out, and the food festivals make it one of the best times to be there. Winter is quiet, genuinely local, and the pintxos bars are just as good.
